Gods and Goddesses.

It is also to be noted that by religiously chanting Sree Lalitha Sahasra namavali, we are seeking the blessings of Sree Lalithambika, who is also called Kalima, Durga ma, Devi, Parasakthi, Bhagavathi etc, who in turns is the universal mother. Each one of the namam by itself is a powerful weapon for many sorts of day-to-day problems. The importance and benefits and related stories of each one of them will be listed uccessively in our page as per the wish of Sree Lalithambika.

Lalitha Sahasranamam can be chanted in two different ways. One in Stotra form and the other in mantra form. In Stotram form, all 1,000 namams are separated into stotrams of a few namams each and recited in this way. In mantra form, each namam is said individually, preceded by "Aum" and followed by "Namah". When chanted in mantra form, the endings of each namam are generally changed to "e" or "yai". Mantra form is commonly used to recite

Lalitha Sahasranamam during archana. Both ways, however, are equally effective.

Mata Amritanandamayi, a modern-day Satguru, has said the following of chanting Lalitha Sahasranamam:

"Children, if we can do archana of the thousand names of the Divine Mother daily with devotion, we will grow spiritually. There will never be lack of life's essentials, food and clothing, in a family that chants the Lalita Sahasranama with devotion."

Mantra vs. Sloka

· Sloka and mantra are verses that are used as prayers and texts in Hinduism.

· Om is the smallest of Mantras that is used to meditate and recited to bring relaxation and inner calmness.

Mantra

o Mantra can be a sound or a small or long verse that is to be recited in a peculiar manner, to appease the deity or to attain inner peace and calm. Mantras come from ancient scriptures of Hindus known as Vedas and Agamas.

o They are in Sanskrit language and cannot be translated or mispronounced as their spiritual effect is gone or not attained by the person who recites them.

Sloka

o Sloka is a word that comes from a Sanskrit root that means a song. The origin of slokas is credited to ancient poet Valmiki who thought of writing in this form, to describe events.

What is the difference between Mantra and Sloka?

Ø Mantras can be a sound, a small text or a long composition, whereas slokas are verses only.

Ø The smallest mantra is OM while there are very long mantras such as Gayatri mantra and Maha Mritunjaya mantra.

Ø Mantras are only in Sanskrit originating from ancient Hindu scriptures such as Vedas, whereas slokas came later in the form of verses and can be in languages other than Sanskrit.

Ø Chanting of both mantras and slokas bring inner calm and peace, though sloka chanting requires understanding of their meaning while even those not knowing Sanskrit can have intended benefits through mantra chanting.

Ø Both mantras and slokas are used for prayers and meditation.

What Is A Mantra and How Does It Work?

  • Mantras are powerful sounds.
  • Mantras are the ones that have when chanted produce great effects.
  • These are chanted repeatedly and that is called Japa.
  • Japa is a key part of Hindu prayer.

“Mantras are very rich in their meaning. While doing Japa one can meditate on the mantra and its meaning. As the mind dwells more and more into that, the mantra conditions the mind and takes up to the higher states and forms the path to the great liberation - eternal bliss!”

Definitions of mantras are oriented toward either the results of repeating the mantra or of the intentions of the original framers and testers of the mantra.

o In Sanskrit, sounds which have no direct translation but which contain great powers which can be "grown" from it are called "seed mantras." Seed in Sanskrit is called "Bijam" in the singular and "Bija" in the plural form.

Mantras are energy which can be likened to fire.

o Mantra can bring a positive and beneficial result, or it can produce an energy meltdown when misused or practiced without some guidance. There are certain mantra formulas which are so exact, so specific and so powerful that they must be learned and practiced under careful supervision by a qualified guru.

Mantra energizes prana.

o "Prana" is a Sanskrit term for a form of life energy which can be transferred from individual to individual. Prana may or may not produce an instant dramatic effect upon transfer. There can be heat or coolness as a result of the transfer.

Mantras eventually quiet the mind.

o At a deep level, subconscious mind is a collective consciousness of all the forms of primitive consciousnesses which exist throughout the physical and subtle bodies. The dedicated use of mantra can dig into subconscious crystallized thoughts stored in the organs and glands and transform these bodily parts into repositories of peace.
